Relaxing days as busy as you choose to make them
The Gulf of Mexico beckons, its surf so near that you can hear it gently crashing on the spotless white sands of Panama City Beach. The surf is like the campfires you experienced as a child in a place far, far from here; the water, ironically, is like a flame. A person cannot help but study either’s patterned movements and lose his mind in that simple exercise. Today is fit for relaxation after all that happened yesterday when you began the day waterborne, having launched your flats boat from a dock at the Pointe. You explored St. Andrew Bay in search of redfish, a species far more often seen than caught. In the afternoon, you joined a foursome for a round of golf at the new Jack Nicklaus-designed layout just minutes from your home. You were long and straight off the tee and you putted well, but your short game deserted you. There’s always something. You and your wife, who had spent her day shopping, met friends at a dockside bar for cocktails and watched boats unload catches that you silently envied. Finally, you made your way to an award-winning restaurant. Torn between surf and turf, you opted for scamp, a delicate deep-water grouper you’d scarcely heard about it before you traded advancing concrete for a tide that subtly rises and falls. Prepared over a wood grill and served with crab meat, the entrée is worth writing home about, if only you could find the words. No matter. The extended family will be visiting you at the Pointe before long. So, too, the neighbors and friends residing still in the cityscape you left behind.
