Green spaces, blue crabs and creature comforts

 At Grand Lagoon Pointe, gates open upon common areas that are anything but common. Welcome to a tropical arboretum punctuated with features suited to activities ranging from fitness to self-flattery. A glistening swimming pool and adjacent hot tub are surrounded by a deck assembled from attractive pavers. The large leaves of banana plants and elephant ears are buffeted by a breeze that rustles the tops of palm trees. Just beyond the pool, a summer kitchen will prove the perfect place from which to stage a picnic. Residents will gather in a pool house pavilion to share in conversation or perhaps to join in a game of bridge, poker or rummy, then to discover whether the card gods will favor them on this, another day worth celebrating. A spacious lawn may invite others to test their skill at croquet, while, at the end of the community dock, children lower a baited contraption of wire and twine to the lagoon bottom, hoping to land blue crabs with which to impress their elders. And early in the morning, a solitary angler, from time to time, will wade out from the Pointe, pause to look toward the mouth of the lagoon and a rising sun and then cast out a live shrimp rigged beneath a foam cork. Soon, a speckled trout will be by to inspect the angler’s offering. Better a trout than a jack crevalle; the jack just might strip his reel of line and leave him with a story few will believe.
